Jim Deering

        

James B. Deering, III, passed away April 30, 2019 in North Salt Lake, Utah, after a brave battle with cancer. Jim was born July 20, 1947, in Hailey, Idaho, to Jay Deering and Larie Jensen. He worked as the controller of Machinery Center Inc., buying and selling heavy mining equipment internationally. He later opened his own company, Deering Machinery or Deemaco.

Jim is survived by his two sisters, Barbara (Dave) Inchausti and Patricia Cox, his former wife, Vicki Shaw Freeland, and their four children, James (Holly), Jodi (Bryan) Petersen, Travis (Carol) and Tammy Moosman. He married Lainey Anderson in 1981, and joined her in raising her three children, Dori Murphy, Michelle (Mike) Somers and James Murphy. He leaves behind 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Eston.

Jim was an outdoor enthusiast who loved taking his family skiing, hunting, boating, camping and fishing, always welcoming any of his children's friends to come along. He taught his three boys to be responsible hunters, handymen and do-it-yourselfers. Jim and Lainey spent many years crabbing and fishing in Oregon. He strived for perfection in everything he did, from his yard to his automobiles. He always had compliments on how great his yard looked.

An avid and passionate Utes fan, Jim looked forward to the football season and game day in his sideline seats at Rice Eccles Stadium. When he became too ill to use his season tickets, he loved sharing them with his children, grandchildren and friends.  Jim stayed upbeat and loving to his family until the end, and he will be remembered and loved forever. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E., where friends may visit family from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Ed Robinson

Edward Lynn Robinson, aged 71, passed away April 17, 2018. He was born October 30, 1946 to Albert and Mary Evelyn "Eva" Robinson in Salt Lake.

He married Karla Bangerter in 1963. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Karla of 54 years, his son, Terry and his daughters, Kim and Kelly, as well as by his 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kenneth Robinson.

Ed worked for Peterbilt of Utah for over 40 years as a Diesel Mechanic as well as running a home garage service for many years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time with family. He was a jack of all trades and a measure twice, cut once kind of guy.

Ed lived a life that was full of pride, joy, happiness and love. His generosity, work ethic, humility and selflessness are all qualities that those he left behind admired most about him. Ed was a man of few words, but when he did speak you'd hate to miss it. He had a wise crack for every situation. He appeared to be a tough egg, but his shell was very easy to crack. As anyone who knew him will attest, he was always the first to offer a helping hand, but would never be one to ask for help himself.

He will be forever remembered by everyone he met.

In lieu of flowers, grab a beer, call a friend, tune-up your car, or change your oil. He would like that.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday April 22, 2018 at the Bountiful Elks Lodge located at 544 W 400 N, in Bountiful, UT, from 2:00pm - 6:00pm. (Per Ed's wishes, casual attire is required.) We hope you can join us to honor his memory, and enjoy a cold beverage with friends and family.

Glen Hansen

          

Glen Heber Hansen, age 70, passed away peacefully in his home while holding his wife's hand on Easter Sunday 4/1/2018.

He was born on May 23rd, 1947 in Ogden, Utah to his loving parents Mildred J. Gould and Heber G. Hansen. He lived much of his life in Bountiful, UT and served an honorable LDS mission in Central and South America. He was a graduate of Weber State University and held Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing when he had the chance. Some of his favorite things were dogs, Elvis, and Coca Cola. He enjoyed the mountains of Utah and the beauty they offered. On the weekends, you could find him working in his yard and garden, which he meticulously cared for.

He is survived by his wife Pamela A. Hansen, sisters Leann (Ron Lowder) and Louise (Greg Brown), and his four children: Sarita Hargrave; Collin (Andrea Hansen); Giselle Uffens; and Uriah (Patrick Beck). He also leaves 9 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

The world will never be the same without his extreme patience, kindness, and unconditional love. No one could ever fill his shoes. You and your love will forever be in our hearts.

Paul Schwartz

Our Dad, Paul Draper Schwartz, passed away peacefully at home, the morning of Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the age of 70.

Dad was born on August 11, 1947 to Paul Junior Schwartz and Alice Louise Draper in Spanish Fork, Utah. He spent his youth growing up in Mapleton, Utah, later moving to Bountiful, Utah and graduating from Bountiful High School in 1965. After graduation, he went to work for E-Systems, later know as Moog Inc., as a stock room clerk. He then enlisted in the United States Army on August 31, 1966, being assigned to the 25th Infantry Division, Tropic Lightning in Vietnam. After 3 years of service and being honorably discharged on August 29, 1969, he returned to the States and to E-Systems, where he retired in 2012 after 43 years of dedicated service, attaining the position of Project Planner.

Dad met our mother, Katherine Jean Bushman in 1969 after his military service and married her in 1971. They spent almost 34 wonderful years together before her passing in April 2005.

Dad is survived by his children, Laura Anne Conford (Glade) Tanner, Monica Jean Sime, Casey Paul Schwartz; grandchildren, Stefan Eric Tanner, Elizabeth Katherine (Tevis) Carpenter, Taylor Robert Sime; siblings Ann (Russell) Sheriff, Jeffrey (Analee) Schwartz; nieces and nephews; cousins; in-laws James Reid Bushman, Karen Ann "Annie" Bushman; and other surviving family.

He was preceded in death by our mom, Kathy; his parents, Paul Junior Schwartz and Alice Louise Schwartz; a baby sister Renee Schwartz; along with his in-laws Reid Bushman, Lois Bushman, Carol Bushman and Connie Bushman.

Dad was an intelligent, thoughtful, kind and generous person who wanted people to be their best. He was a no nonsense guy who expected everyone to live their life with the same dedication and self accountability as he did. Thank you for caring for us Dad in the way that you did. We love you and will miss you greatly. Rest in peace.

Our family would like to thank his doctors and their staff at Granger Medical Clinic, the nurses and staff at Heartwood Home Health & Hospice for being there through to the end and especially his nurses Jessica and Sheri.

A viewing is scheduled for Friday, February 2nd, at 1:00 p.m. for family and close friends at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road. It was Dad's wish to be cremated.

Alma Rigby

Alma returned home to his Heavenly Father on December 16, 2017, at age 70. His was a life well-lived! He left a legacy of faith and love, and a beautiful posterity of 17 grandchildren.

Born in Logan Utah on December 20, 1946 to Alma Bartlett Rigby and Ivonne Jensen Rigby, he attended Ogden and Bountiful High Schools, Utah State University and University of Utah. He served a mission to his beloved Vienna Austria, and the spirit of missionary work never left him.

He was sealed for time and all eternity to Lauralee Wilson on June 18, 1971, which was, according to Alma, "the best decision of my life." His burning testimony of Jesus Christ sustained him in numerous church callings. His most rewarding ones were Seventies' President, Stake Mission President, and High Priest Group Leader. His greatest joy was seeing people receive the blessings of the gospel.

He worked for Zion's Bank, Security Title Company, and the Salt Lake County Recorder's office. He was an avid sports fan, and especially loved baseball. Alma was a devoted husband, and a wonderful, gentle father and "Grampy". He will always be remembered for his supportiveness to his children, and his patience and loving kindness to everyone. He is survived by spouse: Lauralee; children: Brent (Maria) Rigby and family, Wendi (Devin) Shurtleff and family, and Tami (Phillip) Roberts and family. Viewing will be held Thursday, December 21st from 6-8pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary (295 N. Main, Bountiful). The funeral (celebration of life) will be held on Friday December 22nd at 11am in the Orchard 4th Ward building (55 E. 350 N. North Salt Lake, Utah). Julie Ann Warren

  

Mom passed away quietly surrounded by her family Sunday October 22, 2017. Born on January 1st to J. Harold and Ruth Marie Warren in Logan, Utah, her birthday was celebrated as the first birth in Cache Valley. Among her most treasured possessions was a baby ring that was one of the gifts given by the merchants to the first child born. Since then it has graced the hand of each child and grandchild when they were blessed and named.

Mom graduated from Bountiful High School, and later attended both Utah State University and University of Utah, and remained an Aggie fan. She married L. Brent Piep in January of 1966, and subsequently raised 4 children with him in North Salt Lake.

An active member of the LDS church her whole life, Mom held many positions in the church, but received the most joy and satisfaction working with the Boy Scouts. She mentored many young men as they worked on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, including both sons and 4 grandsons.

In her professional life she worked in a number of different fields from teaching, food catering, insurance processing and the medical field. She found great rewards when she was teaching school, and loved the challenge and adrenalin rush that came with working in the OR at the U of U med center.

Mom was a talented cook and gardener, but managed to work wonders with a needle. She was sought after for her needlework, and a number of finished projects were included in books. Her quilts made for family frequently included needlework blocks as well as the hand quilting; she hand drew the patterns for baby quilts for each of her grandchildren as well as a number of her nieces and nephews. One of her talents her ability to look at a dress, skirt, blouse of shirt in the store and then return home and reproduce them. For many years her children wore the latest fashioned fabricated at home by her hands. In the garden she took great enjoyment in trying to grow plants that would likely not grow for anyone else. The last few years of her life she took pride in giving people gifts of home grown pomegranates she had pick from her tree as she stepped out her front door.

She is survived by her husband, Brent, Children Michael, Norman (Stacy), Teresa (Kevin) and Kristina, Grandchildren, 1 Aunt and 4 sisters, along with many nephews, nieces and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.

Viewing to be held Wednesday October 25, 2017 at the LDS Stake Center at 55 East 350 North, North Salt Lake

Graveside Services will be held Friday October 27, 2017 at the family plot in the Smithfield City Cemetery at 300 East Center.

David Jenkins

David Paul Jenkins Jr. “W7JFH” (signing off) passed away in his home on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 after a brief battle of cancer.

Our dearly loved husband, father, brother and friend, was born July 14, 1947 in Salt Lake City, to David Paul Jenkins and Ruth Beatie Jenkins. David graduated from Bountiful High in 1964, attended Weber State. He was in the Army National Guard; he retired after 35 years in Avionics with United Airlines.

He was a loving husband to his wife; Jane Skrlac Jenkins of 49 years, wonderful father to Tara and John, grandfather to Denver and Skye Newman a loving son to Ruth Jenkins; and brother to Randy Jenkins and Susan Walton Mabey.

His sweet disposition and generous heart made him a favorite to all of his many nieces and nephews, family and friends.

He is survived by: his wife, Jane; his daughter Tara (Dennis); his son, John (Farah); his mother, Ruth; his sister, Susan (Jim); and his brother, Randy (Jill). He is preceded in death by his father, David, and his brother, Corey (Shirley). We will miss him and love him always.

Vern Christensen

Our beloved husband, brother, father and friend, Vern Pierotti Christensen returned to be with our Heavenly Father on Oct. 3, 2017, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born March 24, 1947, to Vern N and Ruth (Pierotti) Christensen in Bountiful.

Vern was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife of 38 amazing years, Jodene, his step-mother Gayle, his brothers, Charles (Laura) Christensen and Layne (Sue) Christensen, and his sisters Ruth (James) Larsen, Leonida (Carey) Beckstead and Colleen (Brent) Rushton. He is also survived by his five children, Bryan (Sara) Christensen, Bradley (Megan) Christensen, Jessica (Greg) Lambourne, Jeremy (Brenda) Christensen and Daniel (Jennifer) Christensen, and nine grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Bountiful 25th Ward, 1500 S. 600 East, Bountiful. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on the same day, at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 West, Bountiful. Bonnie Curl

Bonnie was born April 30, 1947 in Salt Lake City to George Curl and Shirley Pringle and passed away on April 26, 2017. Bonnie graduated from Bountiful High School in 1965. She married Paul Peterson in Salt Lake City July 30, 1968 at her mothers home.

Bonnie worked as a clerical person, as a janitor and in the fast food industry.

Bonnie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved dragon boating and was a member of the Blind Ambition dragon boat team. During her time on Blind Ambition she traveled to Denver, Washington D.C. and Tempe, Ariz., as well as raced in Washington and Oregon. She loved all her cats over the years.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Peterson of Tigard; son, George Peterson of Gresham; daughter, Paula Evans of Tigard; grandson, Joseph Evens of Tigard; sisters, Sharon Bartlett of Paradise, Utah, Patricia Gunderson of Salt Lake City, Linda Oliver of Bountiful, Utah; and her brother, Gordon Curl of Tooele, Utah.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, George Curl and Shirley Pringle.  Bonnie was buried in the Crescent Grove Cemetery, Tigard, OR. 

Lynn Schoenfeld

Lynn Keith Schoenfeld passed away peacefully on Friday, March 3, 2017 - less than two months after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 69 years old.

Lynn will be remembered most for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Lim; and their four children: Marissa Hatch (Darrin) of Austin, TX; Catherine McKasson (Mark) of Meridian, ID; Steven Schoenfeld (Lindsay) of Lehi, UT; and Susan Stewart (Seth) of Vienna, VA. He was the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren.

Lynn grew up in Bountiful, UT, the only child to parents Keith Walter Schoenfeld and Helen Hogge, both of whom preceded him in death.

In addition to filling his life with family memories, Lynn was known for his accomplishments in his career as an accountant, his dedication to church and community volunteering, and his teasing, dry sense of humor. He enjoyed golfing, reading, traveling, history, piano, and opera. His appreciation for black licorice and dill pickles was a hallmark.

Lynn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Utah in 1972 and a Master's Degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA in 1980. He was a tax partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (retired 1999) and Kernutt Stokes, LLP, in Eugene, OR (retired 2008).

Lynn was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He lived his faith through years of service in leadership and teaching positions, and magnified his callings wherever he was asked to serve. He was a full-time missionary in the French East Mission (France and Switzerland) from 1966-1968 and a senior missionary with Linda in the Church and Family History Headquarters Mission (Salt Lake City) from 2013-2015. He was also a Boise Temple ordinance worker.

He was an officer in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve from 1971-1978.

Lynn was actively involved in his community, regularly volunteering for organizations with which he felt a connection. These included: the Boy Scouts of America, where he held various council and unit leader positions; the Eugene Arts Foundation, where he was a board member and president (1985-1995); the Eugene Opera, serving on the board and as president (1998-2006); the Arts Foundation of Western Oregon (board member) 2006-2007; the Lane Community College Foundation, board member and treasurer 2004-2007; and the Meridian Idaho Library District (board member).

A viewing will be held on March 10 from 6:00-7:30 at the McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, UT.

A funeral service will be held on March 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church, 10115 South Yorkshire Drive, South Jordan, UT, where a viewing will be held prior to services at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Bountiful, UT.

Afton Westfall

Afton Louise Westfall Diemart, 69, a resident of Wendell, died January 31, 2017, with her family in her home after a long illness.

Afton was born on February 12, 1947 in Wendell, Idaho, the daughter of James Hall and India Clarissa Westfall. She was raised in Southern Idaho, and Northern Utah, graduating in 1965 at Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science and Education at Kansas State Teacher’s College in 1969. She graduated with her Master’s in Education Degree at Wichita State University in 1974. 

She married the love of her life, Roy Charles Diemart on January 28, 1967 in Hamilton, Kansas. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity on August 17, 1974.

Afton was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she was very active in Primary and with the Young Women’s program.

Afton was well known for her cooking and was able to make a masterpiece meal from humble ingredients. She was able to write any poem in a moment’s notice. She wrote inspiring pieces for her children which they cherish to this day. She created soft and beautiful quilts for each of her grandchildren for their baptism. This was to remind them of the comforting influence of the Holy Ghost. Afton was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed teaching her children how to preserve the fruits of their labor. She loved music and reading uplifting books. She loved to travel and enjoyed visiting family members across the continent.

She loved to teach but more importantly cared deeply about the welfare of her students. She was known to go above and beyond to make certain her students’ needs were met. She taught Elementary students for forty years, retiring in 2009.

Afton is survived by: her children, Doreen (Sam) Begay, Jennifer (Sean) Olson, Melissa (James) Thorne, Sarah (Chris) Wendell, Gregory (Anndrea) Diemart, Charles (Tara) Diemart, and Rachael (Nicholas) Havens; her sisters Dorothy, Vernelle, Janine, Cheryl, and Virginia and her brothers, Richard and William. She was also a grandmother of 20 grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Roy Charles Diemart and her father, James Hall Westfall. 

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 am at the Wendell LDS Church. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow at the Wendell Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service-Wendell Chapel.

Ken Petersen

On January 23, 2017 our Dad, Grandpa, and friend, Kenneth Kay Petersen returned to heaven to finally reunite with his Mom and Dad, whom he missed dearly. Our Dad, Kenneth Kay Petersen was born on March 11, 1947 to Ralph Petersen and Myrtle Mary Neilsen-Petersen. He was one of five children; sisters: Devola, Cora, and Carma; and his brother, Shirl. Our Dad graduated from Bountiful High School in 1965 and furthered his education at ITT Technical School where he received a degree in welding. Our Dad Ken enlisted in the Navy in 1969 and served for a brief period in the Vietnam War. He was very patriotic and loved the song “God Bless the USA.”

Our Dad Ken married his first wife Marilyn, later divorced, but together had a daughter, Wendy Petersen-Hurman. On November 19, 1969 he married Carol Bills, later divorced, but together they had David Petersen (Billie Jo), and Amber Bridges (Scott). Our Dad had six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren (three more on the way). Our Dad Ken had such a strong faith in the LDS church. He felt very fortunate to be able to go through the LDS Temple. He had such a strong faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Our Dad Ken had many passions throughout his life. As a teenager he enjoyed fixing up cars and was a member of a car club. Our Dad was also a coach for his son, David’s baseball team for many summers. He loved working with young kids. Our Dad’s biggest passion was being an over-the-road truck driver; he was a truck driver for almost thirty years. He would often tell people that he had driven close to three million miles and had pretty much covered every major city throughout the United States. He kept a map book of the United States and highlighted all areas he had been. Since retiring he has lived vicariously through his son, David who is also an over-the-road truck driver. He was so proud of David and what he had accomplished through school and now his truck driving. He loved the phone calls from David with updates of where David was going to be traveling. They would often discuss which highways would be used in David’s travels.

Our Dad was also very proud of me, Amber. I became a distance runner and have run a handful of marathons. My Dad never missed a race. He was there to attend almost every one and always met me at the finish line. He bragged to everyone about my accomplishments. My dad was giddy with all inclusions of our lives. His heart was so filled with love for us that it was hard to believe his heart fit inside his chest. We are going to miss his goofy and playful personality, his beautiful blue eyes, and his deep love for us.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and again one hour prior to funeral services at the same location. Interment will be at Memorial Lake Hills Cemetery. Vicki Lynn Higham

         

Vicki Lynn Higham Alder passed away January 7, 2017 in the arms of her loving husband Reuel Alder and into the loving arms of our Savior Jesus Christ. Her daughter Rachel Barnett who cared for her through seven months of Hospices was also with her when she passed.

Vicki is a kind and loving mother of seven children and 16 grandchildren many of whom she cared for when their mothers worked. She was born in Oildale, California to her mother Beverly Ann Foley who still lives. Her father Richard G Higham, step mother Ramona Busenbark and sister Lee Higham preceded her in death.

Vicki’s surviving Children are Jennifer (Clark) Walton, Christina (Todd Denman) Alder, Ammon Alder, Diana (Wes) Baker, Rachael Barnett, Eli Phoenix, and James (Jana) Alder. Surviving grandchildren are Alex Walton, Alyssa Walton, Sarah Walton, Sterling Walton, Luci Walton, Sophia Denman, Sam Denman, Rajko Baker, Andrew Barnett, Daniel Barnett, Jeffery Alder, Jasmine Alder, Jessica Alder, Jennifer Alder, and JayGolden Alder.  Surviving Brothers are Richard Higham, Gill Higham, Eric Higham, David Stitt, Brlan Stitt, Dennis Stitt, Kelly Stitt. Her Sister is Karen Witt.

A viewing will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday 13, January at Russon Brother Mortuary, 1941 N. Main St, Farmington, Utah, 84025.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday 14 January, in the South Weber Chapel located at 1401 E South Weber Drive, South Weber, Utah. A viewing will also take place prior to the funeral services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Uintah City Cemetery.

Greg Holbrook

         

Gregory Keith Holbrook, 69, our beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend passed away December 5, 2016, from heart failure.

He was born August 12, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and spent his happy youth as the oldest son of four4 children. His parents were Keith Moss Holbrook and Kolleen Holbrook Johnson. He was a hardworking man and spent many years working in the trucking industry.

Gregory married the love of his life, Barbara Kay on June 9, 1966. Barbara was the daughter of Lapreal and Woodrow Kay. Barbara and Greg were the proud parents of two children: Travis (Darla) and Kassandra Clarke, both of Syracuse. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Kathleen Norton Hinckley, and his wife who passed in 2012.
He is survived by his daughter, Kassandra; son, Travis, (Darla) and six grandchildren, BreAnne, Zachary, Taylor, Brecken, Holly, and Cooper.

Greg loved to read and continued his learning throughout his life. He collected a large library of the best works and knew the writing style of each author. Greg always had a positive attitude and was supportive and encouraging of his children and grandchildren. He loved and enjoyed the beauties of the earth, his garden, hunting, and fishing.

Funeral services will be held at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah, Friday, December 9, at 11:00 a.m. with interment in the Farmington City Cemetery. Alan Keddington

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Martin Alan Keddington, passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2016 at home in Laguna Woods, CA after a valiant battle with cancer. He is already missed by those who knew and loved him. Alan was born in Salt Lake City, on Dec. 4, 1946, to Joseph Martin and Elda Page Keddington. He and his six younger brothers grew up in Bountiful.

Alan learned early on the value of hard work. Throwing papers on the early morning paper routes and working in his dad’s service station were a daily part of his early years. Alan graduated from Bountiful High School in 1965 and soon left to serve a mission in the Spanish American Mission. Upon his return, he married Julie Badham in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 14, 1967. Together they have four children. Alan became a pharmacist in Bountiful after graduating from the University of Utah. He also worked for General Motors for several years in Napa, CA, and he loved the beautiful drives throughout the Napa and Sonoma Valleys that this job entailed. The majority of his professional life was spent as an agent for Allstate Insurance in Orange County, CA.

Alan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a dedicated servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and his testimony of the gospel was an integral part of who he was. His years of service as an ordinance worker in both the San Diego and Newport Beach Temples alongside his wife brought him great peace and joy.

He had a great love for baseball. For many years, he coached little league. He enjoyed playing on various community softball teams. Also, one of his favorite activities was to attend Major League baseball games with his family. Alan always had a corny joke ready to tell, a book waiting to be read, or a crossword puzzle halfway done. If he had his way, he would spend his days fishing the rivers of Utah or riding horses in the mountains above the “B.” His grandchildren loved “Grandpa Shadow” and his silly antics. Alan was incredibly smart, and his advice was always welcome. He is known for his adage to “Never Kick a Wet Chicken.” He was a true friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; his children Patrick (Annette) Keddington of San Diego, CA, Christina (Troy) Draper of Frisco, TX, James (Katherin) Keddington of Bountiful, Richard (Holly) Keddington of Watertown, WI; and 15 grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Madelyn.

Services will be held at Ruston Brothers Mortuary, 295 N Main, Bountiful—a viewing on Friday, Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 PM and a funeral service on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to noon. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Humanitarian Fund for Refugee Relief at ldscharities.org.

Mary Hinckle

Mary Louise Hinckle Hanson, 69, born September 6, 1946, made her journey home Wednesday night, July 27, 2016.

Mary is survived by her three children, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful 7th Ward building, 1250 South Main Street with a luncheon to begin at 12:30 p.m.

Phil Prusse

Philip Robert Prusse, 68, passed away July 22, 2016 at his home in Ogden. Philip and his twin, Pherrel, were born Sept. 28, 1947, in Salt Lake City, the sons of Alfred Phillip Robert and Zona May Ashworth Prusse.

He was raised in Bountiful. Philip graduated from Bountiful High in 1965. He worked in the trucking industry for most of his life. He loved the outdoors and he was often fishing, hunting or camping. He loved to laugh and always had a ready joke and a smile.

Philip was the middle child of seven. He was preceded in death by his son, Jason Prusse, two grandchildren and parents, Alfred Prusse and Zona (Ashworth) Prusse.

He is survived by his sons: Brandon (Shellie) Prusse, Roy; Brian (Sarah) Prusse, Syracuse; Cameron Prusse, Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren; siblings, Judy Campbell, Paker, CO; Dean Prusse, Damascus, OR; Sharon Millburn, Bountiful; his twin, Pherrel Prusse, South Jordan; Kevin Prusse, Bountiful; and Diana Jensen, Fruit Heights.

Memorial services were held Friday, July 29 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Interment was at Lindquist’s Memorial Park in Layton.  Published in the Davis County Clipper August 1, 2016

Tom Sorenson

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Thomas Clair Sorenson  passed away peacefully on May 28, 2016 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He loved hunting, fishing, camping with his family and friends in the Colorado mountains. Although he was born and raised in Utah (June 19, 1947), he always called Colorado Springs, CO his home, where he lived and raised his five children for 38 years. He served three years in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict.

Tom worked for the Department of Defense as an accountant and as such was able to take his family and live in Germany for a total of seven years. Other than the hunting with his boys and friends they were the most memorable times of his life.

He married his high school sweetheart, LeAnne Smoot on Dec. 21, 1966 in Centerville, and was later sealed to her in the Salt Lake Temple. He and his wife served nine years as temple ordnance workers in the Denver Temple and nine years as Stake missionaries at the Colorado State Prison in Florence, CO (his two very favorite callings in the church). He was the most principled and honest man we have ever known.

He was born to Vaughn C. Sorensen and Leatha C. in Mt. Pleasant, Utah whom preceded him in death.

Survived by his children Monica Berger (Ty), Michael (Melissa), Tyler (Yvette), Derick (Katie), Brett (Lydia) and 18 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his sister Linda (Kenny) Minear, brothers: Kenneth (Janet), Ed (Sandra), Bill (Becky).  

Many thanks to Heart Hospice for their wonderful care and the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Center and their wonderful staff who took such good care of his every need.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2016 at the West Point Stake Center, 550 N. 2300 West, West Point, with a viewing before between 9 and 10:30 a.m. There will also be a viewing held the evening before from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.at the same location.  Published in the David County Clipper May 31, 2016

Bruce Jefferies

Bruce James Jefferies was born on August 19, 1947 to Donald James and Norma Bauer Jefferies.  He was the oldest of four siblings that included Brad, Sherrie and Neil.  He never married and had no children. 

According to his sister, Sherrie, he was very personable and loved being around people.  Bruce was a drummer with The Fabulous Flippers that toured the Midwest for years.  The group is said to be one of the most important bands to come from the Central United States. No other band from the area drew larger crowds, caused more excitement, or had more influence on aspiring musicians. The Flippers drew sell-out crowds from Texas to North Dakota and from Colorado to Illinois. The band famously advertised their shows on KOMA Radio from Oklahoma City, and teens drove hundreds of miles to what was known as a "Flipper Dance”.

Bruce later settled in Owensboro, KY where he ended his career working for the Owensboro Music Center,  handling the sound equipment for concerts in the area.

Bruce passed away at the age of 68 on September 22, 2015.  He is buried in the Bountiful Lakeview Cemetery with an interesting marker featuring a set of drums.

Stan Anderson

Stanley Nelson Anderson was  born May 1, 1947 to Farel George and Fern Louise Nelson Anderson.  According to his brother John’s obituary, Stan had married twice, to Yoko and Sayuri.  Stan had four siblings, Sherman Farel, Marilyn, John Kyller, and Richard Lynn.  He passed away September 14, 2015 at his home in Japan shortly after attending our 50th class reunion at Bountiful High in July, 2015.

Dennis Hicks

Dennis Harold Hicks, age 68, passed away on June 28, 2015, in St. George, UT. He was born on June 28, 1947, in Payson, UT to Harold Nolan Hicks and Ruth Christina Brewerton. He married Dorothy Marie Griego. They were married in Las Vegas, NV September 5, 1982.

Harold was an Army Brat and lived in places such as Panama, Germany, White Sands, NM, Fort Bliss, TX, and settled in Bountiful, UT with his family in 1963. He graduated from Bountiful High School in 1965, and continued his education with a bachelor’s degree in history and geography from Weber State University in 1972. He retired after 20 years, from the state of Utah Driver’s License Division, to spend his time with his grandson. He loved to camp, fish, hunt, and loved everything to do with history. He was a tremendous asset to his family and all those who knew him although his exterior looked tough he had a big heart and was always concerned about others.

He is survived by his mother Ruth Hicks; wife Dorothy G. Hicks; children: David M. Hicks (Megan Ellet) Logan, UT, Kristen M. Certonio (James V. Certonio) Ivins, UT; grandchild Cason J. Certonio; and siblings: Mary Beth Hicks and Linda Thomas. He was preceded in death by his father Harold N. Hicks.

Wayne King

J. Wayne “Butch” King passed away on March 19, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born to Elvin E. and Leola Fern Jackson King on April 22, 1947 in Salt Lake City. He married Susan Slager, they were later divorced. He married Diana Fields on Nov. 13, 1987 in Las Vegas, NV.

Wayne was a veteran of the United States Army, receiving the Purple Heart. He retired from Questar Gas Company where he was a marketing salesman. He was a life-long resident of Davis County and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Wayne was active in scouting and was instrumental in helping his grandsons achieve their Eagle Scout awards. He was an active member of Big Brothers. For over 30 years he was a member of the Bountiful Lions Club where he served in all capacities, including president. In addition he served as District Governor and helped establish the Utah Sight for Kids Foundation.

Wayne is survived by his wife Diana; son, Kasey (Shami) King, Layton; three daughters, Alesha (Chris) Grimes, Tucson, AZ., Keri (Matthew) Sorensen, Douglasville, GA., Kim (Mike) Johnson, Syracuse; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Preston, Kelsey, Morgan, Jordan, Garrett, Allyssa, Brode, Olivia, Chandler, Sarah, Christian, Kaysea, Jayc, Austin, Tucker, and Jadin; brother, Dennis (Ilene) King, Centerville; four sisters, Joan Gwynn, West Valley; Beverly (Dan) Macfarlane, Sunset; Karma (Thomas) Bott, St. George; Cathy (Douglas) Bates, West Jordan. Preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kilee and brother Lonnie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 in the Parrish Canyon Ward Chapel, 610 N. Rowland Way, Centerville. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 East and on Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Mountain American Credit Union in the name of “Utah Lions Sight For Kids Foundation.”

Jeffrey Hood

Jeffrey L. Hood was born to George Landon and Vesta Loraine Chatelain Hood on April 28, 1947 and graduated from Bountiful High School in 1965, where he had belonged to the Chess Club.  Jeff died February 23, 2015 per the Social Security Death Index.

Angie Mills

Angie Mills McDonald passed away Feb. 10, 2015 after a long battle with cancer.

Angie was born Aug. 22, 1947 in Gunnison, Utah. Her parents are Angie Myrle Nielsen (deceased) and Orval Lue Mills. Angie married her husband, Merrill Ray McDonald, on Aug. 29, 1970 in West Valley City, Utah.

Angie is the mother of four children: daughter Kaye McDonald Duggan (Stephan), daughter Jolynn (DarRell) Payne, son Ray Alan McDonald (Heidi), and daughter Brandy (Drew) Johnson. Angie is the grandmother of 16 grandchildren and is the oldest of six siblings.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Tooele City Cemetery. Services entrusted with Didericksen Memorial.  Published in the Tooele Transcript Bulletin Feb. 12, 2015

Paul Thorum

Elmer Paul (Skip) Thorum 1946 ~ 2015

Skip passed away January 7, 2015. He was born on November 20, 1946 to Elmer G. and Oleah Wall Thorum. He had many health issues and disappointment in his life, but he remained positive, cheerful and full of hope. He graduated from Bountiful High School, and served in the LDS Northern Indian Mission.

He is survived by his lifetime friend, Diane Gardner; brothers, Tom and John Thorum (Sidney), and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 13th at 1:00 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, Utah. Burial at Murray City Cemetery.  Published in Deseret News on Jan. 11, 2015

Myra Wilson

Myra Catherine Wilson Gagnier, 67, of Yakima, died Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Myra was born April 26, 1947 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to William James and Joyce (Smith) Wilson. Her childhood was spent in the Kennecott Copper area of Western Utah where her father was a postal worker who would sometimes carry her around in his mail bag. Myra moved to the Bountiful, Utah area for her K-12 education where she graduated from Bountiful High School in June 1965. She attended BYU in the fall of 1965 where she met her future husband, Rick. They married June 30, 1967 in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City, UT. After Rick's graduation, they moved to Western Washington for approximately five years. In 1973 the family moved to Moses Lake, Washington and then later to Yakima where she has lived for over 35 years. She worked as a secretary for Davis High School for over 20 years, retiring in 2009.

Myra greatly loved her children and grandchildren, choosing to spend a lot of time either with them or thinking about them. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her loving husband, Rick Gagnier of Yakima, her children, Travis (Christy) Gagnier of Des Moines, WA, Amy (Keith) Felt of Woodinville, WA, Adam (Lisa) Gagnier of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Josie (Noah) Fox of Yakima; fourteen grandchildren, Anastasia, Madelaine, Cosette, Trevor, Trent, Katie, Trey, Owen, Oliver, Ellie, Truen, Calvin, Nolan, Emmett, and a sister, Jayne (Clarence) Jones of Centerville, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. and the Funeral Service begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014 at the Terrace Heights Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 105 Hillcrest Drive. Burial will follow in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
