In Memoriam

The purpose of this blog is to honor our former classmates who attended Bountiful High School as members of the class of 1965 and are now deceased. These souls, who have gone before us, were our friends, our associates, and an important part of our own history. They deserve to be remembered. We were able to research a school photo for most of these former classmates. We have also located obituaries for many of them, and have included statistical information regarding the death of those for whom an obituary was not found.

Our profound thanks to all of our friends who have sent information to assist us in preparing this labor of love. Researched and compiled by Yvonne Rasmussen and Diane Day.

**Due to Blogger limitations, dates for those who passed before 1970 will display inaccurately in the chronological list. You'll find those classmates' obituaries listed under 1970.

Bruce Jefferies

(Obituary compiled from information found on the Internet.)

Bruce James Jefferies was born on August 19, 1947 to Donald James and Norma Bauer Jefferies.  He was the oldest of four siblings that included Brad, Sherrie and Neil.  He never married and had no children.

According to his sister, Sherrie, he was very personable and loved being around people.  Bruce was a drummer with The Fabulous Flippers that toured the Midwest for years.  The group is said to be one of the most important bands to come from the Central United States. No other band from the area drew larger crowds, caused more excitement, or had more influence on aspiring musicians. The Flippers drew sell-out crowds from Texas to North Dakota and from Colorado to Illinois. The band famously advertised their shows on KOMA Radio from Oklahoma City, and teens drove hundreds of miles to what was known as a "Flipper Dance”.

Bruce later settled in Owensboro, KY where he ended his career working for the Owensboro Music Center,  handling the sound equipment for concerts in the area.

Bruce passed away at the age of 68 on September 22, 2015.  He is buried in the Bountiful Lakeview Cemetery with an interesting marker featuring a set of drums.

Bruce was a great friend, with an incredible quick wit and a great love of music. After seeing Brent Harrison play an amazing drum solo during a Bountiful High Talent Assembly (which garnered a standing ovation) Bruce befriended Brent and began his journey to becoming a great drummer for the Flippers. We lost contact with each other during my tour in the Army and his move to the midwest, but I always had fond memories of our high school days together. I named my second son Bruce, after him. It was a very sad day when I learned of his passing from our good friend, Dave Jenkins, who also has passed on. I hope they both are enjoying time together again, as we all did so many years ago.
