In Memoriam

The purpose of this blog is to honor our former classmates who attended Bountiful High School as members of the class of 1965 and are now deceased. These souls, who have gone before us, were our friends, our associates, and an important part of our own history. They deserve to be remembered. We were able to research a school photo for most of these former classmates. We have also located obituaries for many of them, and have included statistical information regarding the death of those for whom an obituary was not found.

Our profound thanks to all of our friends who have sent information to assist us in preparing this labor of love. Researched and compiled by Yvonne Rasmussen and Diane Day.

**Due to Blogger limitations, dates for those who passed before 1970 will display inaccurately in the chronological list. You'll find those classmates' obituaries listed under 1970.

John Campbell

Donald John Campbell, Jr., age 75, passed  away April 8, 2022, from causes incident  to age. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 5, 1947, third son of Don J. and Marr Riley Campbell.

John grew up in Bountiful, Utah just east of the old tabernacle, on land that had once been his great grandfather’s farm. He attended Stoker School, Bountiful Junior High and then Bountiful High, graduating with the Class of ’65. One of the highlights of his life was serving as BHS Student Body President during the ’64-’65 school year.

After high school, John was called to the Mexican Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he spent thirty months teaching, proselyting, learning Spanish, and experiencing life outside of the United States. Upon returning home, he attended the University of Utah where he earned a B.A. in History with a Spanish minor as well as a Reserve Officer commission through ROTC. Later, at the age of 40, he enrolled in the Executive MBA Program at Brigham Young University and received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

While at the University of Utah, John met and married Robin Anderson from Salt Lake’s East Millcreek area. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple October 6, 1970 and grew up together, sharing 45 happy years. John and Robin loved having a family and enjoyed raising their four wonderful children, Kristin, Chad, Craig and Katie. In 2005, Robin was diagnosed with cancer and spent the next ten years bravely fighting for her life. She passed away November 30, 2015.

After Robin’s death, John was blessed to find a second warm and caring companion, someone to share his final years. While working as a volunteer at Welfare Square, he met Xiomara Rincon of Maracaibo, Venezuela. They were married by their Bishop on August 6, 2016 and, one year later, were sealed together in the Bountiful Temple. John and Xiomara (Xiomy) enjoyed close to six years together as husband and wife.

John wished to thank friends and family for their love and support throughout his life: “Thanks for being my friends.”

Funeral services will be held Saturday April 16 at 11am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 990 Chapel Dr, Bountiful, UT. (across the street from Viewmont High School), where a viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:45 am. There will also be a viewing the night before at Russon Mortuary, 295 N Main St, Bountiful, UT. from 6-8pm.
