Alan Keddington

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Martin Alan Keddington, passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2016 at home in Laguna Woods, CA after a valiant battle with cancer. He is already missed by those who knew and loved him. Alan was born in Salt Lake City, on Dec. 4, 1946, to Joseph Martin and Elda Page Keddington. He and his six younger brothers grew up in Bountiful.

Alan learned early on the value of hard work. Throwing papers on the early morning paper routes and working in his dad’s service station were a daily part of his early years. Alan graduated from Bountiful High School in 1965 and soon left to serve a mission in the Spanish American Mission. Upon his return, he married Julie Badham in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 14, 1967. Together they have four children. Alan became a pharmacist in Bountiful after graduating from the University of Utah. He also worked for General Motors for several years in Napa, CA, and he loved the beautiful drives throughout the Napa and Sonoma Valleys that this job entailed. The majority of his professional life was spent as an agent for Allstate Insurance in Orange County, CA.

Alan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a dedicated servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and his testimony of the gospel was an integral part of who he was. His years of service as an ordinance worker in both the San Diego and Newport Beach Temples alongside his wife brought him great peace and joy.

He had a great love for baseball. For many years, he coached little league. He enjoyed playing on various community softball teams. Also, one of his favorite activities was to attend Major League baseball games with his family. Alan always had a corny joke ready to tell, a book waiting to be read, or a crossword puzzle halfway done. If he had his way, he would spend his days fishing the rivers of Utah or riding horses in the mountains above the “B.” His grandchildren loved “Grandpa Shadow” and his silly antics. Alan was incredibly smart, and his advice was always welcome. He is known for his adage to “Never Kick a Wet Chicken.” He was a true friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; his children Patrick (Annette) Keddington of San Diego, CA, Christina (Troy) Draper of Frisco, TX, James (Katherin) Keddington of Bountiful, Richard (Holly) Keddington of Watertown, WI; and 15 grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Madelyn.

Services will be held at Ruston Brothers Mortuary, 295 N Main, Bountiful—a viewing on Friday, Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 PM and a funeral service on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to noon. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Humanitarian Fund for Refugee Relief at ldscharities.org.

Mary Hinckle

Mary Louise Hinckle Hanson, 69, born September 6, 1946, made her journey home Wednesday night, July 27, 2016.

Mary is survived by her three children, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful 7th Ward building, 1250 South Main Street with a luncheon to begin at 12:30 p.m.

Phil Prusse

Philip Robert Prusse, 68, passed away July 22, 2016 at his home in Ogden. Philip and his twin, Pherrel, were born Sept. 28, 1947, in Salt Lake City, the sons of Alfred Phillip Robert and Zona May Ashworth Prusse.

He was raised in Bountiful. Philip graduated from Bountiful High in 1965. He worked in the trucking industry for most of his life. He loved the outdoors and he was often fishing, hunting or camping. He loved to laugh and always had a ready joke and a smile.

Philip was the middle child of seven. He was preceded in death by his son, Jason Prusse, two grandchildren and parents, Alfred Prusse and Zona (Ashworth) Prusse.

He is survived by his sons: Brandon (Shellie) Prusse, Roy; Brian (Sarah) Prusse, Syracuse; Cameron Prusse, Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren; siblings, Judy Campbell, Paker, CO; Dean Prusse, Damascus, OR; Sharon Millburn, Bountiful; his twin, Pherrel Prusse, South Jordan; Kevin Prusse, Bountiful; and Diana Jensen, Fruit Heights.

Memorial services were held Friday, July 29 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Interment was at Lindquist’s Memorial Park in Layton.  Published in the Davis County Clipper August 1, 2016

Tom Sorenson

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Thomas Clair Sorenson  passed away peacefully on May 28, 2016 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He loved hunting, fishing, camping with his family and friends in the Colorado mountains. Although he was born and raised in Utah (June 19, 1947), he always called Colorado Springs, CO his home, where he lived and raised his five children for 38 years. He served three years in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict.

Tom worked for the Department of Defense as an accountant and as such was able to take his family and live in Germany for a total of seven years. Other than the hunting with his boys and friends they were the most memorable times of his life.

He married his high school sweetheart, LeAnne Smoot on Dec. 21, 1966 in Centerville, and was later sealed to her in the Salt Lake Temple. He and his wife served nine years as temple ordnance workers in the Denver Temple and nine years as Stake missionaries at the Colorado State Prison in Florence, CO (his two very favorite callings in the church). He was the most principled and honest man we have ever known.

He was born to Vaughn C. Sorensen and Leatha C. in Mt. Pleasant, Utah whom preceded him in death.

Survived by his children Monica Berger (Ty), Michael (Melissa), Tyler (Yvette), Derick (Katie), Brett (Lydia) and 18 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his sister Linda (Kenny) Minear, brothers: Kenneth (Janet), Ed (Sandra), Bill (Becky).  

Many thanks to Heart Hospice for their wonderful care and the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Center and their wonderful staff who took such good care of his every need.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2016 at the West Point Stake Center, 550 N. 2300 West, West Point, with a viewing before between 9 and 10:30 a.m. There will also be a viewing held the evening before from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.at the same location.  Published in the David County Clipper May 31, 2016

Bruce Jefferies

Bruce James Jefferies was born on August 19, 1947 to Donald James and Norma Bauer Jefferies.  He was the oldest of four siblings that included Brad, Sherrie and Neil.  He never married and had no children. 

According to his sister, Sherrie, he was very personable and loved being around people.  Bruce was a drummer with The Fabulous Flippers that toured the Midwest for years.  The group is said to be one of the most important bands to come from the Central United States. No other band from the area drew larger crowds, caused more excitement, or had more influence on aspiring musicians. The Flippers drew sell-out crowds from Texas to North Dakota and from Colorado to Illinois. The band famously advertised their shows on KOMA Radio from Oklahoma City, and teens drove hundreds of miles to what was known as a "Flipper Dance”.

Bruce later settled in Owensboro, KY where he ended his career working for the Owensboro Music Center,  handling the sound equipment for concerts in the area.

Bruce passed away at the age of 68 on September 22, 2015.  He is buried in the Bountiful Lakeview Cemetery with an interesting marker featuring a set of drums.

Stan Anderson

Stanley Nelson Anderson was  born May 1, 1947 to Farel George and Fern Louise Nelson Anderson.  According to his brother John’s obituary, Stan had married twice, to Yoko and Sayuri.  Stan had four siblings, Sherman Farel, Marilyn, John Kyller, and Richard Lynn.  He passed away September 14, 2015 at his home in Japan shortly after attending our 50th class reunion at Bountiful High in July, 2015.

Dennis Hicks

Dennis Harold Hicks, age 68, passed away on June 28, 2015, in St. George, UT. He was born on June 28, 1947, in Payson, UT to Harold Nolan Hicks and Ruth Christina Brewerton. He married Dorothy Marie Griego. They were married in Las Vegas, NV September 5, 1982.

Harold was an Army Brat and lived in places such as Panama, Germany, White Sands, NM, Fort Bliss, TX, and settled in Bountiful, UT with his family in 1963. He graduated from Bountiful High School in 1965, and continued his education with a bachelor’s degree in history and geography from Weber State University in 1972. He retired after 20 years, from the state of Utah Driver’s License Division, to spend his time with his grandson. He loved to camp, fish, hunt, and loved everything to do with history. He was a tremendous asset to his family and all those who knew him although his exterior looked tough he had a big heart and was always concerned about others.

He is survived by his mother Ruth Hicks; wife Dorothy G. Hicks; children: David M. Hicks (Megan Ellet) Logan, UT, Kristen M. Certonio (James V. Certonio) Ivins, UT; grandchild Cason J. Certonio; and siblings: Mary Beth Hicks and Linda Thomas. He was preceded in death by his father Harold N. Hicks.

Wayne King

J. Wayne “Butch” King passed away on March 19, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born to Elvin E. and Leola Fern Jackson King on April 22, 1947 in Salt Lake City. He married Susan Slager, they were later divorced. He married Diana Fields on Nov. 13, 1987 in Las Vegas, NV.

Wayne was a veteran of the United States Army, receiving the Purple Heart. He retired from Questar Gas Company where he was a marketing salesman. He was a life-long resident of Davis County and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Wayne was active in scouting and was instrumental in helping his grandsons achieve their Eagle Scout awards. He was an active member of Big Brothers. For over 30 years he was a member of the Bountiful Lions Club where he served in all capacities, including president. In addition he served as District Governor and helped establish the Utah Sight for Kids Foundation.

Wayne is survived by his wife Diana; son, Kasey (Shami) King, Layton; three daughters, Alesha (Chris) Grimes, Tucson, AZ., Keri (Matthew) Sorensen, Douglasville, GA., Kim (Mike) Johnson, Syracuse; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Preston, Kelsey, Morgan, Jordan, Garrett, Allyssa, Brode, Olivia, Chandler, Sarah, Christian, Kaysea, Jayc, Austin, Tucker, and Jadin; brother, Dennis (Ilene) King, Centerville; four sisters, Joan Gwynn, West Valley; Beverly (Dan) Macfarlane, Sunset; Karma (Thomas) Bott, St. George; Cathy (Douglas) Bates, West Jordan. Preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kilee and brother Lonnie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 in the Parrish Canyon Ward Chapel, 610 N. Rowland Way, Centerville. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 East and on Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Mountain American Credit Union in the name of “Utah Lions Sight For Kids Foundation.”

Jeffrey Hood

Jeffrey L. Hood was born to George Landon and Vesta Loraine Chatelain Hood on April 28, 1947 and graduated from Bountiful High School in 1965, where he had belonged to the Chess Club.  Jeff died February 23, 2015 per the Social Security Death Index.

Angie Mills

Angie Mills McDonald passed away Feb. 10, 2015 after a long battle with cancer.

Angie was born Aug. 22, 1947 in Gunnison, Utah. Her parents are Angie Myrle Nielsen (deceased) and Orval Lue Mills. Angie married her husband, Merrill Ray McDonald, on Aug. 29, 1970 in West Valley City, Utah.

Angie is the mother of four children: daughter Kaye McDonald Duggan (Stephan), daughter Jolynn (DarRell) Payne, son Ray Alan McDonald (Heidi), and daughter Brandy (Drew) Johnson. Angie is the grandmother of 16 grandchildren and is the oldest of six siblings.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Tooele City Cemetery. Services entrusted with Didericksen Memorial.  Published in the Tooele Transcript Bulletin Feb. 12, 2015

Paul Thorum

Elmer Paul (Skip) Thorum 1946 ~ 2015

Skip passed away January 7, 2015. He was born on November 20, 1946 to Elmer G. and Oleah Wall Thorum. He had many health issues and disappointment in his life, but he remained positive, cheerful and full of hope. He graduated from Bountiful High School, and served in the LDS Northern Indian Mission.

He is survived by his lifetime friend, Diane Gardner; brothers, Tom and John Thorum (Sidney), and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 13th at 1:00 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, Utah. Burial at Murray City Cemetery.  Published in Deseret News on Jan. 11, 2015

Myra Wilson

Myra Catherine Wilson Gagnier, 67, of Yakima, died Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Myra was born April 26, 1947 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to William James and Joyce (Smith) Wilson. Her childhood was spent in the Kennecott Copper area of Western Utah where her father was a postal worker who would sometimes carry her around in his mail bag. Myra moved to the Bountiful, Utah area for her K-12 education where she graduated from Bountiful High School in June 1965. She attended BYU in the fall of 1965 where she met her future husband, Rick. They married June 30, 1967 in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City, UT. After Rick's graduation, they moved to Western Washington for approximately five years. In 1973 the family moved to Moses Lake, Washington and then later to Yakima where she has lived for over 35 years. She worked as a secretary for Davis High School for over 20 years, retiring in 2009.

Myra greatly loved her children and grandchildren, choosing to spend a lot of time either with them or thinking about them. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her loving husband, Rick Gagnier of Yakima, her children, Travis (Christy) Gagnier of Des Moines, WA, Amy (Keith) Felt of Woodinville, WA, Adam (Lisa) Gagnier of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Josie (Noah) Fox of Yakima; fourteen grandchildren, Anastasia, Madelaine, Cosette, Trevor, Trent, Katie, Trey, Owen, Oliver, Ellie, Truen, Calvin, Nolan, Emmett, and a sister, Jayne (Clarence) Jones of Centerville, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. and the Funeral Service begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014 at the Terrace Heights Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 105 Hillcrest Drive. Burial will follow in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

JeNan Broderick

JeNan Broderick Page, 67, passed away October 23, 2014 from pancreatic cancer. She was born February 12, 1947 in Castle Dale, Utah to Ronald J and Lorna Beth Jones Broderick. She married James Robert Page on April 29, 1966 in Bountiful, Utah. James passed away on August 30, 2008 after 42 years of marriage.

JeNan attended Bountiful High School and lived in Davis County for over 60 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings including compassionate service leader, nursery worker, library worker, teacher, and visiting teacher.

She loved to be with her grandkids and great grandkids. She also loved camping and cruising with her sister, playing with her grandkids, and zooming on her 4-wheeler. She was a great cook.

JeNan is survived by her children, Laurel Lyn (Shawn) Wittke, North Carolina; Jennifer Ann (Kent) Call, St. George; James Ronald (Tiersa) Page, Kaysville; Robert Denim (Heather) Page; Jeffrey Scott (Janae) Page, Layton; and Douglas Andrew (Tori) Page, Kaysville; 27 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers and 2 sisters, LeRoy (Sharilyn) Broderick, W. Bountiful; Danny (Vicki) Broderick, W. Bountiful; Kevin (Laurie) Broderick, Centerville; Kae (John) Garrick, W. Bountiful; and Patricia (Brad) Coburn, Holiday. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, James. The family thanks Envision Home Health Care for their kind and compassionate care for JeNan.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 27, 2014 at 12:00 noon in the Kaysville 7th Ward chapel, 331 South 50 West, where family and friends may gather for a viewing from 10-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Layton.

Roger Buck

    

Roger Buck died unexpectedly at his home, apparently as the result of a fall on Sunday, July 13, 2014. He was 67 years old.

Roger was born in Los Angeles, CA and grew up in Bountiful, Utah, graduating from Bountiful High in 1965. Following a Mormon mission to Switzerland and Lebanon (he learned to speak German and Arabic), Roger attended the University of Utah, where he earned a bachelors degree in psychology.

Upon graduation he moved to San Francisco, CA, where he worked at various jobs, including manager of a European Health Spa. Before long he applied to and was accepted at the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology, and then California State University, Hayward, obtaining two masters degrees in psychology.

Subsequently, he worked as a psychologist in the Bay Area for a number of years and was highly regarded by his colleagues for his skills. He worked with children, was a marriage and family counselor, a school psychologist, and part of a mobile crisis team. In recent years he had returned to Utah and was living in the Avenues in Salt Lake City.

Roger is an unforgettable character for all who knew him: intelligent, witty, passionate, opinionated, charismatic and a bit devilish. He lived life on his own terms, which included actively protesting the Vietnam War and leaving the Mormon Church when he came to doubt some of its teachings. He was also compassionate, especially towards children, homeless people and animals. His rescue golden retriever Minnie was his constant companion and accompanied him on daily walks in the Avenues and the foothills above Salt Lake City. He enjoyed great literary works and particularly liked the novels of Fyodor Dostoyevski and Hermann Hesse. His favorite rock group of all time was The Who; and his favorite city was San Francisco.

Roger was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his brother Brent, who lives in San Francisco.  At Roger's request, there will be no funeral or other service. He will be remembered. That is enough.

Dan Treft

Richard Dan Treft, born March 9, 1947 in Salt Lake City, UT, to Richard C. and Norma Chandler Treft.  He was the oldest of four children that included Linda C. Treft, Pamela A. O'Shea and Michael R. Treft. 

He married Karen Kay Hamlett March 31,1970 in Salt Lake City, UT.  Dan passed away on April 21, 2014.

Carol Gudmundson

           

After a difficult battle with ALS I have joined my family in Heaven on March 2, 2014. I was the second of five children born on April 14, 1947 to Clark Gudmundson and Darlene Haslam Gudmundson.

After graduating from Bountiful High I attended the U of U. Later I earned a Bachelors degree in Business from the University of Phoenix. I married Steve Linde and was blessed with a daughter, Traci Hansen (John). Later divorced. I married David Stanworth and was blessed with a son, Dustin. Later divorced. I married my best friend, Sammy Kay on March 7, 1991 and we were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 7, 1992. I was blessed with his three kids, Tracy Cash (Bill), Jeff Kay (Ryan), and Troy Kay (April).

I traveled extensively with my best friend, Sammy. What a blessing he has been. I was active in the LDS Church and served in various church callings. What a journey I have had. After retiring from the State of Utah 6 years ago I joined the Red Hat Society’s Foxy Red Hot Divas where I served as queen until recently. I met several dear friends. I was a past officer in Friends Unlimited and played pinochle with my dear friends.

I loved and will miss my grandchildren, Johnathan (Anna), Christian, Katie, Thomas, Nichole (John), Danny (Alan), Tyler (Ashley), Amber (Ryan), Jesse, Jackson. Levi, Dillon, great-granddaughters, Gracie, Ella, and Madeline. I am also survived by my siblings, Sharon Proctor (Doc), and Ron Gudmundson (Angelina). Preceded in death by my parents, my brothers, Clark and Kay; grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

I want to thank all of my special friends for their love and support. I especially want to thank all of my kids for their love, help and support given to Sammy and I. Thank you to Dr. Bromberg and all of those at UCNS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MD/ALS for research.

Services will be held Friday, March 7th, 11:00 at the Crosspointe Ward, 1327 W. 5550 So. with a viewing Thursday evening from 6 – 8 at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 So. Redwood Rd. and one hour prior to services at the church.

John Green

Johnny Van Green, adored husband to Shirlene Adair Green and loyal father of nine fantastic children, passed away from lung cancer on the evening of October 27, 2013 at Jordan Valley Medical Center.

John lived life to the fullest and enjoyed being around the things and people he loved the most. The "Green House 9" was always the "Lazy Jay Motel" as he would call it. Family conversations were often held in the dark with Matlock reruns in the background.

John did not want to take life too seriously. Light-hearted interactions with everyone he met kept us all smiling. John was a top producing insurance agent. He served his country in the U.S. National Guard and the Army Reserve.

He gave his heart to his beautiful bride in the Salt Lake Temple and he raised a family determined to carry on his name. During the setting days of John's life, the family witnessed a kind and brave man depart from this earthly existence leaving behind a legacy of honor and love.

Preceded in death by his parents, Van Wilson Green and Norma Jean Smith Green. Survived by his wife, Shirlene Adair Green; brothers, Wilson Green (Sandy) and Robert Green; his children, John Russell Green (JeongAe), Jennifer Densley (Ronnie), Melanie Williams, Adam Green (Ashley), Holly Marrott (Dave), James Green (Nicole), Mariette Evans (David), Andrew Green (Justine), and Aaron Green;?and twenty most wonderful grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway. (10600 South). Viewings will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the mortuary and from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.  Interment: Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery.  Published in the Deseret News on October 31, 2013.

Calvin Buck

Dewaine Calvin "Cal" Buck passed away October 22, 2013 in Boise, Idaho. This beloved father and friend passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Boise, Idaho.

Cal was born November 26, 1946 in Logan, Utah to mother Evelyn and father Dewaine Buck, both deceased. Cal grew up in Bountiful, Utah where he attended Tolman Elementry, Bountiful Jr. High and Bountiful High, graduating in 1965. Cal served honorably in the US Army from February 1966 to February 1969. His service was spent in Alaska, New Mexico and Vietnam.

Cal most always owned acreage which enabled him to pursue his lifelong love of horses. Cal spent most of his life involved in the trucking business where he worked as a terminal manager for Garrett Freight lines and NW Transport throughout the 70's & early 80's, until starting his own companies; "Five State Transport Inc." in Salt Lake City, Utah and "Cal D. Buck Trucking LLC" in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Cal also owned and operated "Country Cash," a small convenience store in Terreton, Idaho, until selling it to buy a small 160 acre farm there.

Cal has four children; James, Steven, Miranda and Crista as well as three grandchildren; Gabriel, Nishan and Zander. Cal's siblings are, sisters; Patty Buck, Janice VanOrden, Vicky Humphrey, Laura Crawford, and brother; David. Cal was a wonderful father and friend to all who knew him. Gae Price

Gae Mary Price Rankin, 65, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2013 surrounded by her husband and children. Gae was born on July 24, 1947 to Harvey and Gladys Price in Salt Lake City. She graduated from Bountiful High School in 1965. She married Ken Rankin on September 24, 1976 and together they raised a wonderful family. Gae was a beautician for 48 years (retired July 2012). She had a passion for spending quality time with her grandchildren by whom she was affectionately known as “Grandma Treat” as she loved to surprise them with sugary snacks.

Gae was loved and admired by all that knew her, but especially by her children. Gae was blessed with an ability to love, nurture, and teach. Her example of quiet service spoke loudly of her charitable life. She was constantly aware of those around her who needed a little lift and would do all she could to make other’s lives a little brighter.

Gae is preceded in passing by her father and mother Harvey and Gladys Price. She is survived by her loving husband Ken Rankin; children Kim (Clint), Shane (Amber), Tim (Jodi), and Justin; 12 grandchildren; and siblings Harvey, Clyde, Jan, Walt, Yvonne, and Pam.

Carol Smith

Carol Anne Gross, 66, of Morris, IL, passed away Monday, June 17, 2013 at Rivershores Care Center in Marseilles.

Born March 30, 1947 in Wilmington, DE, Carol Anne was a daughter of James and Frances Hoffman-Smith. She was raised and educated in Delaware before moving to Utah and graduating high school. In May of 1968 Carol married Gordon Gross in Morris, he preceded her in death. She held employment over the years at the Joliet Arsenal, Grundy Bank, Northwestern Corporation, and the Morris Daily Herald. Carol was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris, and often tutored at Immaculate Conception School. She enjoyed knitting, playing the cello, and playing the organ at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Morris.

Survivors include three children: Matt (Ellen) Gross of Ottawa, Nancy (Jeff) Spampanato of Seneca and Scott (Jennifer) Gross of Morris; grandchildren: Nathan and Anna Spampanato, and Jada, Kohen, Adam, and Noah Gross; three sisters: Sally (the late Leon) Zanoni and Janet (Jim) Pullen both of Florida and Martha Smith of North Carolina; three sisters-in-law: Carole VanCleave and Sharon (Lynn) Paulson both of Morris and Sandra Harney of Idaho, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Carol was preceded in death by her parents: James and Frances Smith; husband, Gordon and one sister, Nancy Hunter.

Cremation rites have been accorded per the wishes of Carol. A Memorial Mass will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 E. Jackson St. in Morris. Reverend Ed Howe, CR will officiate and inurnment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Morris.

Preferred Memorials may be made as gifts in Carol's memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or Immaculate Conception School Endowment Fund.

Carolyn Lockett

Our dear Carolyn passed away Friday, February 15, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones after a valiant struggle against a cancer so rare that it accounts for only 1/100th of one percent of the known cases.

Carolyn was born in S.L.C. to Richard and Kathryn Lockett on August 18, 1947. She graduated from Bountiful High and Stevens-Henager College.

She married Tony Thurber in 1982 and worked as his legal secretary and office manager for many years. Their common interests of opals, jewelry, skiing, scuba diving, backpacking, sailing, and motorcycling took them through Europe, India, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Mexico, Peru, Australia, and as vendors to gem shows throughout the western states. Carolyn was famous among the show people for her wire and opal ants mounted on Zeolite crystals.

Carolyn leaves the children raised with her husband Tony; Lisa (Stolen), St. George, Suzanne (Hinchman) and Eric Bradnt of Salt Lake; grandchildren Tessa (Creel), Tara and Jake Stolen, of St. George, and Hannah Hinchman, Roy. She is survived by half-siblings Gene Vickrey, his wife Rita, and nephew Troy of Kemmerer, Wyoming and Donna Weisland, of Seattle, Washington.

Carolyn's body will be donated to the Huntsman Cancer Center for research into her rare disease. The family is grateful for the fine care she received there as a patient, and gives special thanks to Dr.'s Gouw, Vorhees, Dunson; and Nurse Katie Thomas.

There will be a celebration of Carolyn's life in Ogden at a date to be arranged. Timely notice will be given.

Stephen Cook

Stephen Robert Cook was born on September 20, 1947 in Manchester, England to John Francis Cook and Doris Wolfenden Cook. He passed away on November 5, 2012 in St. George, Utah. Steve was a gifted student from a very early age and was proud to attend Oldham Hulme Grammar School in England. His passion for learning and remembering stayed with him his entire life.

As a teenager he moved to Salt Lake City where he met and married the beautiful Karen Pedersen of Salt Lake City and they were sealed in the London Temple in April 1971. They lived in England for the next eleven years, and had five children. A sixth child was born after moving back to Utah. While living in England, Steve was a career teacher and administrator. He served in a Bishopric and a Stake Presidency, but his true love was teaching, and he was a renowned Seminary and Institute teacher. He worked faithfully and tirelessly in the Church Education System to raise the profile of the scriptures, Institute and Seminary with great success; many of his students in the British Isles have expressed a great debt of gratitude for the foundation he laid in this area of the church.

He also took great delight and priority in nurturing his young children in the gospel. He made a deliberate effort to fill our home and hearts with spiritual things, to create a heavenly home. Gathering around as Steve played the 12 string guitar, scripture scavenger hunts, music filling the home, long drives, and cheering on the Utah Jazz and Manchester United football are just a few of the memories his children will treasure forever. He laid an eternal foundation for his family.

Upon returning to Utah with his family in 1979, he earned a Masters Degree from Brigham Young University and taught seminary at Bingham, Hillcrest and Alta High schools. He was a writer and editor of religion and curriculum for the LDS Church for twenty-five years. He had an exceptional mind and an outstanding ability to teach the gospel. He devoted his life to the studying and teaching of the scriptures and to imparting in each student a love and fervent desire to study and come to know the doctrines of the gospel. He was a seeker of truth. He was a great witness of Jesus Christ and had an unshakable conviction of the Savior.

In May 2002, Steve married loving Alison Foster in the Preston, England Temple and along with her daughter, Alana lived in Oldham, England and Spanish Fork, Utah. In recent years, he lived in St. George, Utah and had the privilege of working in the St. George Temple and of teaching a youth Sunday school class.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, Karen, and his son-in-law, Jared Bentley. He is survived by his wife, Alison, three brothers, David, John, and Martin Cook, all of England and by his seven children, Tammy (Barry), Andree, Rebecca (Kirk), Carilee (Brant), Joe, Lindsey, and Alana and by fifteen grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at the St. George East Stake Center, 345 South 300 East with a viewing prior at 3:30 p.m. Burial will take place on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery 200 North Street. Published in Deseret News on Nov. 8, 2012

Madeline Quist

Madeline (Quist) Schimmelpfennig Thimmes, our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on Oct 2, 2012 at the age of 65 after a brief struggle with cancer. She was born Jan 13, 1947, in Salt Lake City to Carl Lowell and Geneve Gold Quist.

Madeline had a golden childhood growing up in the Bountiful 9th Ward. Her many Gold and Quist cousins also helped make her childhood special. As an adult, Madeline adopted Logan, Utah, as her home. She began her family there with her first husband, Howard Schimmelpfennig. While raising her three kids, Madeline not only served as the Ellis Elementary PTA President and the Logan Council PTA President, she also received her BS ('81) and MBA ('83) degrees from Utah State University. Later Madeline returned to Logan with her second husband, Martin Gene Thimmes, and taught in the USU College of Business for 11 years.

Madeline also lived in Manhattan, KS, Bounder City, NV, Fort Collins, CO, and finally South Salt Lake, UT. She made many friends and touched many lives everywhere she lived and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marty, and her parents. She is survived by her children, Steven (Jen) Schimmelpfennig, Karen (John) Duncan, and Saundra Schimmelpfennig (Eric) Neperud; her grandchildren, Brendon, Jeremy, Andrew, and Emily; and siblings Beth Beck, Carma (Jess) Fuller, Ross (Marsha) Quist, and Craig (Mary) Quist.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 6th. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a service and remembrance at the Wasatch Presbyterian Church (1700 East 1700 South) in Salt Lake City. Madeline will be buried next to her husband Marty in the Logan City Cemetery (1000 North 1200 East) with a graveside service at 3p.m.

David Greenleaf Mayfield

David Bruce Greenleaf was born on July 8, 1947 in Ogden, UT to James Louis and Doris Jensen Greenleaf.   His father died shortly before his second birthday.  His mother then married John Mayfield.  David had an older brother, Robert, and a younger brother, Norman Greenleaf.

David was married in Rexburg, ID to Diane Zollinger on Feb. 5, 1971 and they had five children: Nathan David, Heather, Melissa, Isaac John William, and Seth James.  The three middle children were born in Anchorage, AK.  He was later married to Kathleen Adams.

David served at Malmstrom Air Force Base near Great Falls, MT as the chief Weather observer.  He later ran a web site: The Atomic Orphan.

Dave was disabled most of his later years and passed away on January 17, 2012, in Salt Lake City, UT from complications of whooping cough.

Brent Parkin

Brent Ralph Parkin was born December 13, 1946 in Salt Lake City, UT to Wayne Floyd and Wilma Green Parkin.  Brent was one of four siblings that included Jerry Wayne, Dennis Jay and Joy Lyn. 

He married Judy Evans, Jan. 10, 1968. 

Brent passed away on Oct. 11, 2011 in Salt Lake City, UT.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Linda Conover

        

Linda Conover Richards passed away Sept. 10, 2011 in Centralia, WA from Breast Cancer. Born June 4, 1947 to Howard Donald Conover and Mabel Mitchell, she grew up in Bountiful. She was a teacher for many years and loved animals and collected antiques.

She is survived by her husband Roy of Winlock, WA, daughters Jodee (Michael) Parkin of Brigham City, UT; Abby (David) Pope of Winlock, WA; and Katie (Jake) Cannon of Valley, AL. She is also survived by her brother Blaine (Debbie) Conover of Salt Lake City, UT. She also has eight grandkids, soon to be nine.

Linda Burk

    

Our loving Mother, Grandmother/Mimi passed unexpectedly at home Friday, July 1, 2011. She was born in Ogden, Utah July 12, 1947.

She loved to travel with her husband. Her most loved destination is Cancun, Mexico.

She is survived by her husband Glen Peterson, her daughters; Jennilyn, Lisa (Brian) Murdock, Laura (Lyle) Hoffman. Mother Nettie, Stepfather Roy "Mack" Helm. Brother, Roland Burk. Grandchildren; Austin, Jamie (Corey), Kyle, Tyler, Jessica, Justin (Meagan), Madison, Abby. Great-grandchildren; Owen and Mason.

Always following her brother, Larry Burk, he died June 30 and she died less than twenty-four hours later. She is also preceded in death by her brother Robert Alan Burk, Grand-daughter, Lyndsey and Mother in law LaVerda "Babe" Moss.

Graveside services will be held 11 am Wednesday July 6, 2011 at Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 W. A visitation will be held 9:30 to 10:30 am at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. prior to the services.
