In Memoriam

The purpose of this blog is to honor our former classmates who attended Bountiful High School as members of the class of 1965 and are now deceased. These souls, who have gone before us, were our friends, our associates, and an important part of our own history. They deserve to be remembered. We were able to research a school photo for most of these former classmates. We have also located obituaries for many of them, and have included statistical information regarding the death of those for whom an obituary was not found.

Our profound thanks to all of our friends who have sent information to assist us in preparing this labor of love. Researched and compiled by Yvonne Rasmussen and Diane Day.

**Due to Blogger limitations, dates for those who passed before 1970 will display inaccurately in the chronological list. You'll find those classmates' obituaries listed under 1970.

Olinda Hoehne

Olinda Leigh Hoehne Reynolds, a woman of deep humility, kindness, and devotion to God, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 22, 2023 at age 76, with her three children at her bedside. Olinda was born in Long Beach, California on May 23, 1947 to Herbert Fred and Irene Hall Hoehne.

They moved to Bountiful, Utah in 1950 where she was raised. From an early age, she sought after all things beautiful and creative. She showed great skill and natural talent in her artwork as a child. Her teachers would often comment how well she did, and one said: "You should become an artist!" And so, she did. She was the Student Body Artist at Bountiful High School and received the Visual Arts Sterling Scholar Award her senior year in 1965.

She attended Utah State University (1965-69) with an art scholarship where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Upon graduation, she worked as an artist doing freelance work and teaching art in public schools. Olinda served in the Northern German Mission from 1970-71 for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A few years later, church friends in Germany introduced her to a man from New York named John Reynolds, who was a recent convert to the church, and was living in Germany. They wrote letters and corresponded over phone for six months before John flew to Utah to meet her. After only a few days, he proposed, and they were later married in June 1977 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived for eight years in Germany, where their two daughters were born. In 1985, they moved to Bountiful, Utah to raise their children near her family. In 1990, their son was born.

Olinda had many talents and interests. She remained fluent in German throughout her life and used it often in family history/genealogical research. Music touched her heart, and it would bring her to tears. She played the piano, harmonica, and ukelele. She also enjoyed singing in choirs, including the Mormon Youth Chorus. She did ballet and tap dance in her youth. Later in life, she joined a tap-dancing group called the "Dancing Grannies". Olinda was known for her beautiful yard with flowers, vegetable garden and a variety of fruit trees. She taught her children how to value and care for the earth through planting, weeding, pruning, and canning.

Olinda had an incredible gift for art. She received many awards for her talent and skill. She taught art classes to a variety of age groups over the years. She was commissioned to do portraits, still-life and nature scenes. She worked for Interpretive Graphics doing scenic byway signs in places such as Bryce Canyon, Goblin Valley, Dead Horse Point, Lake Powell, Jackson Hole, and other locations across the US. She also did historical and religious paintings, including work for the LDS Church. Her artwork can be seen at the Sacred Grove, Martin's Cove, the St. George Temple, and Ensign Peak to name a few.
She diligently magnified all of her church callings, and also served with John as leadership support missionaries in Beattyville, Kentucky from 2013-14. She valued every opportunity to share her testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel restored to a living prophet in our day.

She was humble, unassuming, and without guile in all that she did. She never sought attention or recognition, despite her many talents and gifts. Her service to others was the most common way she showed her love for family and friends. For example, she was John's caretaker for five years in their home until his death in 2018 from ALS. She was a loving wife, never failing him.

Prior to her passing from the late stages of Lewy body dementia, she lived in her daughter Alaina's home for 18 months, surrounded by loving grandchildren. Five weeks prior to her passing, she moved to Copper Creek Senior Living Center when she required more assistance. We thank their nursing staff and Ovation Care & Hospice who served her during that time. They often commented on how pleasant she was to be around, and that even her resting face was a beautiful smile.

Olinda is survived by her three children: Alaina (Jacob) Fjeldsted, Kathryn Reynolds, and Justin (Ashlee) Reynolds; her siblings: Lucille (Frank) Mohlman, David (Debbie) Hoehne, and Curtis (Joanne) Hoehne; and her eight precious grandchildren: Miriam, Soren, Bryn, Harley, Anders, Dax, Demi, and Brody. She is preceded in death by Herb and Irene Hoehne (parents), Bonita Hoehne (sister), and her beloved husband John. We believe he greeted our angel mother when she exited this life, and we rejoice that they are reunited. Despite our sorrow in losing her for a season, we find lasting joy and peace knowing that we will all be together again as an eternal family.

We invite you join us in the celebration of her life with funeral services at 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM Saturday, December 30 at the Val Verda 2nd Ward Building, located at 3317 South 800 West in Bountiful, Utah, where viewings will be held Friday evening, December 29 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday morning, December 30 from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM prior to services. Carla Payne

Carla Payne Forbush was just a fun-loving, adventure-seeking, lady who grew up in Bountiful, Utah. She passed away with all of her family around her on April 21, 2022, at the young age of 75. Her departure was just in time for her to make her spiritual appearance on her water skis for boating season.

Carla is survived by her husband Don, her four children Kristen, Camela (Brian), Michelle (Chad), and Rob (Margot), her stepson Nate and her beloved grandchildren Taylor, Sierra, Kannon, Drew, Cailie, Brett, and Josh. She is also survived by her father T. Jay and her siblings Cheryl, Gary, and Shelley (Mark). In addition to her immediate family, Carla leaves behind an incredible extended family and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Elaine, her brother Rod, and her many dogs. We are confident they are joyfully reconnecting now.

If you knew Carla, you knew that you were loved and there is a good chance she told you that. She always showed up and she truly believed the more the merrier. During her time here, she found a way into everyone’s hearts.

She taught health and P.E. at Butler Middle School for most of her career, after retirement she volunteered for the Red Cross and at the Jordan River Temple keeping her resume full of activities. Carla loved her husband, kids, grandkids, her siblings, her many friends, her pets, her Heavenly Father, waterskiing, traveling and new adventures, butter, popcorn, a good 80s workout video, a peanut buster parfait, NCIS, and nature shows. Carla hated to be cold, dirty windows, having a dry mouth, and the word snot. That’s it. She was content with most everything else. We are not positive, but we think the cause of death was either a stroke or more likely a heavenly adventure she forgot to tell us about. Carla, Carly, Mom, Grandmom we’ve always loved you and miss you already.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the LDS ward building located at 10303 South 2700 West, South Jordan, Utah. A memorial service will be held the following day, Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 11:00 am with a viewing at 10:00 am at the same location. We encourage everyone to attend this last big get-together for the most fun woman on earth. In lieu of flowers feel free to donate to the humane society or the American Red Cross in Carla’s name.

When she was 14, she worked at her grandparents’ restaurant: the Dairy Queen. After it was sold, her grandparents started the restaurant Paces Dairy Anne. Kathie worked there until she was 19. She later went on to become a waitress where she was loved by all that she would come into contact with.

Kathie loved to be outside, loved the mountains, and loved working outside in her yard with flowers in her garden. She loved animals more than anyone you could ever meet. Her favorites were her kitties and she would help any animal she would come across that needed help. You would often find her picking up snails to tell them they had the cutest little faces. She would feed all the hornets and bees with cat food. You would never meet anyone that had a bigger heart and the kindest soul. She always was very giving to everyone she knew including the animal world.

Kathie was one of the strongest people you would ever meet. She was the oldest of 5 children and always wanted to take care of her siblings. All the way to the end, she worried for the wellbeing of her family. She would ride her bike all over town up until about 15 years ago when the pain in her back became overwhelming and it became harder for her to do much of anything. Kathie was loved by all who knew her. Kathie’s favorite times were with her family and friends. She was adored by her nieces and nephews and treated them like her children. She is survived by one brother, Larrie Goff, and her nine sisters: Sharon, Darlene, Melanie, Tammy, Karla, Heidi, Nicole, and Valorie.  Kathie will be greatly missed by all who knew her and by her fur baby family.

Gary Miller

Gary Fred Miller beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep while suffering with Alzheimer’s. He quickly declined after a fall that broke his hip. Three days later he passed in the early morning of Friday, September 3, 2021, in his home surrounded by his loving wife and eight children. He will be deeply missed by so many that he touched with his love, generosity, and example.

Gary centered his life on nurturing his family and extending Christ-like service to others. He and his sweetheart, Farrelyn, were lovingly devoted to raising their eight children and took great care to ensure they were taught and nurtured in the gospel of Jesus Christ. No person was more important to him than his beloved, Farrelyn. To those who knew them, their love and devotion was evident and an inspiration to all.

Born in Salt Lake City, UT in April 17, 1947 to Glen and Vivian Miller, he was the fourth oldest of eight children. He grew up in Bountiful, UT and enjoyed playing baseball and football for Bountiful High School and played for the football state championship his senior year. Following high school, Gary valiantly served in the Uruguay/Paraguay mission from 1966-1968. He attended college at Utah State, BYU, and U of U where he majored in Business Management. In 1971, while having knee surgery from a football injury, he couldn’t resist his beautiful nurse with the long, black hair. Within 6 months they were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 6, 1971.

In 1975 they moved to California after the birth of their third child. Gary began working in the floral industry at Venco Nursery in Oxnard. Not knowing the difference between a fern and a chrysanthemum when he began, he quickly learned the business he loved so much and became the owner five years later, renaming it Milgro Nursery. He soon became one of the largest potted plant growers in the country, expanding the business to other locations including Santa Barbara, CA, Nipomo, CA, Moorpark, CA along with another greenhouse operation in Newcastle, UT. He was well known, loved, and respected within the floral industry. He passed down this great legacy to his children.

Gary was deeply committed to service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to be bishop of the newly formed Camarillo 5th Ward and served there for six years with a special love for all the members, especially the youth. In 1995 he was called by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland to be the stake president of the Camarillo, California Stake and faithfully served for nine years. His dedication and love for the members of the stake was very evident through their love and respect for him. Following a move to St. George Utah he was called to serve as the mission president of the Texas, McAllen Mission. He diligently served from 2007-2010. President and Sister Miller influenced the lives of over 450 missionaries they have a great love for.

When Gary wasn’t with his family, out in the greenhouses, or at a church building, he could be found practicing or at a sporting event for one of his children, flying in his plane, visiting with a family, or out on the golf course. He loved traveling with his wife and family and the Hawaiian Islands were a second home to him. To Gary, heaven would look something like the third hole on the Mauna Kea golf course.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Farrelyn; eight children: Scott Miller (Christy), Michelle Boley (Scot), Melissa Muncy (Mike), Bradley Miller (Ariel), Cherilyn Smith (Ben), MaryAnn Stokes (Ryan), Tamara Roberts (Jay), and Michael Miller (Aubrey); along with his 31 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 10, 2021, at 11:00 AM, with a visitation prior from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, at the Snow Canyon 11th Ward Chapel, 1625 Lava Flow Drive, St. George, Utah. Interment will be in the Santa Clara City Cemetery, 1950 Ancestor Way, Santa Clara, Utah.

Services will be available to watch on Zoom. https://zoom.us/j/99735908198

Curtis Ingleby

Curtis W. Ingleby - December 2, 1946~July 17, 2021

Curtis W. Ingleby (74), beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, and brother passed away on July 17, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Curtis was born in Salt Lake City on December 2, 1946 to James C. Ingleby & Elizabeth R. Wegener.

Curtis was a man who was well respected, easy to love and fun to be around. He was very quick witted, you could always tell when he was about to say something that would make you laugh, sometimes to the point of tears, when you'd see the twinkle in his eyes and a mischievous grin cross his face. He was also quick to reach out a hand when one was needed. Curtis carried wisdom beyond even the 74 years that he lived on this earth, and he shared that wisdom, offering it as one of many ways to show how much he cared for those around him.

Curtis loved playing all types of sports throughout his life. In his youth, his passion was baseball. He was even offered an opportunity to play baseball with the Atlanta Braves. This expanded to include playing and coaching softball as an adult as well as playing racquetball and golf. He was a die-hard fan of the BYU Cougars, the Utah Jazz and the San Francisco 49ers, and loved all other Utah teams. Curtis was very fond of muscle cars and loved racing when he was in his youth. As an adult, he loved his Cobra Mustang so much that he had to part with it due to the number of tickets involving that fast car.

Curtis honorably served in the US Army, he loved his country and was very proud to show his patriotism.

He was employed by EIMCO/OVIVO for most of his professional career. He was loyal to the company and its employees and found happiness in helping others to succeed. He wore many hats throughout his career and genuinely loved being an Operations Manager for the Systems Group, the position he eventually retired from on March 30, 2012. He was an advocate for his customers and was very diligent about solving their complex and unique problems. He established long and lasting working relationships with his colleagues, customers and vendors, and many of these individuals became lifelong friends whom he loved and spoke highly of even after he retired.

Curtis dearly loved his wife and soul-mate Christine. She brought joy, happiness and passion to his life. He adored and cherished her throughout their marriage and was forever grateful for the care she continued to provide to him in his later years. Curtis loved spending time with his family and friends. Quality time together was very meaningful and important to him. He was thrilled to meet his first great-grandson, Oliver, just 2 months prior to his passing and those moments of the two of them together will be forever engrained in our hearts.

Curtis is survived by his wife Christine L. (Fischer), daughter Stefanie (Jason), granddaughters Lexi and Tori (Billy), great-grandson Oliver, sister Lorreen (Dave), sister Diane (Larry), sister Christine (Mark), and numerous nieces and nephews.
